We would like to introduce you to Laura, our new Dentist

Dr Laura Harvey-Cove BSc (Hons), BDS, MJDF RCS Eng

Laura was born and raised in Cirencester by her Mum and Dad, Peter and Linda Cove. She is one of two children and her long-suffering brother Andrew is 6 years her senior. She grew up playing in the Abbey grounds, attended Kingshill School and Pates Grammar School. Laura coached gymnastics at the Cotswold Gymnastics Club and played netball with the Cirencester Netball Club.

Laura was in the second year of study at Bath University and uncertain about her preferred career path when she visited Claudine for a routine dental appointment. When the appointment finished Laura sat up enlightened and announced to Claudine that she had decided to be a dentist! To their surprise, Pete and Lin spent the rest of that day researching the dental pathway and resigned themselves to the fact that Laura was going to be a student for a bit longer than expected.

As soon as Laura graduated from Bath with a BSc in Natural Science, she took up her place at Bristol. With 5 years of University fees looming she searched for unwitting sponsors willing to assist with the funding and discovered the Royal Air Force (RAF). Successful in her application, the RAF agreed to fund the rest of her course in return for 7 years of service to Queen and country and enlistment into the University Air Squadron. During her 7 years of service, Laura was posted to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, RAF Odiham in Hampshire, RAF Valley in North Wales and an overseas detachment as the Senior Dental Officer of the Falkland Islands.

Having promoted on merit to Squadron Leader the RAF were keen to keep her and offered her an extension in Service. Little did they know she already had plans to come and work back in her home town, with Claudine at the practice where it all began.

So, newly married, Laura and Joh have bought a home in Cirencester and will be moving back in early 2020. If Laura is not at the practice, she can usually be found partaking in one sport or another or waist deep in mud on an obstacle race. In June 2020 Laura will be completing a 12 hour Tough Mudder overnight to raise money for Ruby’s Fat Cow Fund.
